NAPA Racing UK has confirmed that former championship leader Jamie Osborne will miss the final meeting of the Vertu MINI CHALLENGE season this weekend at Brands Hatch.<\/strong><\/p>\nOsborne had topped the championship standings from the opening meeting of the year at Donington Park, and scored five wins from the opening six races to give him a healthy lead over the chasing pack.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, Osborne was forced to miss the penultimate meeting of the campaign at Silverstone two weeks ago, which resulted in him slipping back to second in the standings with three races left to run.<\/p>\n
Osborne had hoped to be able to make a return for the final meeting but has instead been forced into the difficult decision to once again remain on the sidelines as he continues his recovery.<\/p>\n
It means Lewis Selby, who sits level on points with Osborne in the standings, will now look to lead the NAPA Racing UK challenge during the season finale as he seeks to overhaul current championship leader Tom Ovenden.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs always, Jamie\u2019s health and wellbeing has to come first,\u201d Team Principal Pete Osborne said. \u201cHaving concentrated on his recovery since Silverstone, we\u2019ve had to make the difficult decision that he will also need to sit out this weekend and won\u2019t be out on track.<\/em><\/p>\n\u201cAs a team and as a family, we\u2019re devastated for Jamie that he has been unable to compete in the final two rounds, particularly when he has been having such an amazing year, but we all remain hugely proud of how he has performed.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nUnlike at Silverstone, a replacement driver has been nominated by NAPA Racing UK to score points towards the Teams\u2019 Championship this weekend although they will remain invisible in terms of points towards the Drivers\u2019 Championship.<\/p>\n
The identity of that driver will be confirmed in due course ahead of track action getting underway with Friday\u2019s free practice sessions.<\/p>\n
